December at KweKwe!!
While
December came in all frosty and snowy, mid month saw us back to the dull
and dreary wet days of winter. So it was good to have some local Open
Shows to attend, which seemed to be as popular and well attended as they
always used to be.
On
December 6th Credwyn, with Minnie, her Parson Russell Terrier, Storm and
myself went to Stockport Canine Society Open Show. Both girls won their
classes, which we were really pleased with. Storm then went on to get
Best of Breed under breed specialist judge Karen Rimmer, which we were
really really pleased with!!!
December 12th saw just the three of us off down to Ladies Kennel
Association Championship Show, at the NEC Birmingham where breed
specialist Janet Nolan was judging. There is always a very festive
atmosphere at this show with folk exchanging cards and gifts. Storm was
in a Limit class of 24 entries and sadly we didn't get a place, but
enjoyed our day in spite of a long walk back to the car park!
December 20th Darwin Canine Society held an Open Show (a welcome
break from Christmas Shopping). Under all round judge Hilary Gilpin, who
also judged the group, Storm was placed 1st in the Open Class, was
awarded Best of Breed, and then went on to win the Hound Group!!! A big
thanks to Credwyn for her superb handling.
With
the festivities of Christmas and the coming of the New Year the weather
has once again turned more seasonal, with heavy frosts persisting all
day under cloudless blue skies. The car, along with the rest of us, is
taking a well earned rest while the hounds sleep off the inevitable
excesses in front of a roaring log fire!!
We look forwards to the new Showing Season and wish all our friends a
Happy and Successful 2009. |

November's Happenings!!
November came in very wet and on an extremely wet November 8th Storm and
myself, along with friend Credwyn and her boy Tatu, made the journey
north to the Scottish Rhodesian Ridgeback Club's Championship Show where
John Sigve - Berg of Norway was Judging. Unfortunately, neither of the
dogs were placed, but it was good to meet up with friends and watch the
type of dogs picked on the day.
November 22nd saw us off to an Open Show, Liverpool Kennel Association
where our Judge was Mr Steve Atkinson.
Storm was entered in the
Open Class, and, as always, beautifully handled by Credwyn took the
class and Best of Breed!!
Sadly
our outing to the annual Midlands & Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club's
Xmas Party did not take place. The party, which is in aid of Rescue had
to be cancelled. We were very disappointed because it is lovely to meet
up with some of the dogs that have been happily re-homed.
The month has gone out with a very cold spell and the start of December
has brought snow and frost here in the North West, as can be seen from
the picture of our Arctic Base Camp! |

October's Happenings!
From the showing aspect October has been a quiet month for
us. Although we entered the Midlands & Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club
Show in aid of Rescue, sadly we couldn't attend; but everyone that did
go found it to be a great success and really enjoyed the event.

| Remy |
During the month we received some very sad news from Blanca Prusova in
Florida. Her much adored Ridgeback KweKwe Kito - "Remy" to his friends
had passed away. He was from our
KweKwe Kelly
and Nyassa Ekundu and litter brother to our
Kika. He was a beautiful boy
with a superb temperament and an excellent ambassador for British
Ridgebacks.
Midland Counties Championship Show was held on the 24th where Breed
Specialist Harry Brown was judging.
Storm was entered in Limit
and won her class from an entry of 17, thus gaining her entry into the
Kennel Club Stud Book! Many thanks go to Credwyn for her excellent
handling in the ring. We're not altogether sure who was most excited!!

Poppy's
6th Birthday!
She has managed to start the celebrations without waiting for the guests
to arrive. Already this week, she has helped herself to a few tasty
morsels found around and about the house!! |

| Partners in Crime - Storm & Kika |
Since we have had nothing in the way of updates for a
couple of months, I thought I would do a brief résumé of events since
the last update.
Tuesday July 15th saw Credwyn, Storm, Minnie and myself off to the East of England Championship Show at Peterborough where Dorothy Grayson-Wood was judging. I was also looking forward to meeting up with friends Lois
Harden, Kristy and Adam. We enjoyed a lovely day but sadly neither of the
girls were placed.
The Midlands & Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Championship Show was
held on Saturday 19th July where
Jackie Parker was judging. Storm was entered in Limit Bitch but again we were unplaced.
At the end of July we went off to the Leeds Championship Show the judge was Colin
Ashmore but unfortunately we were not placed.
Early August and it was the Hound
Association Championship Show with Sharon Rossiter judging. Storm was
entered in the Limit Bitch Class (largest Bitch class) but not placed yet again!
On Friday 15th August, off we
went to Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show in Builth Wells, one of my favourite shows. Our judge was
Jenny Startup and at last we got a place even though it was only VHC!!
On Saturday
September 6th we went to the Rugeley & District Canine Society Open Show.
Here we entered the Open Class and was placed 2nd.

Storm having a swim -
No, not at Darlington but it was close!! |
Friday September 12th was the
first day of the Darlington Championship Show, where the organisers must have had a nightmare to get
the show on at all. The ground was a sea of mud and parking was either
in mud or in foot deep grass, not good if you have a trolley to pull! But
we Brits are a stoic crew and proceedings got underway in what was a decent ring
but which slowly turned into a muddy one with some dogs even jumping over
the particularly wet and muddy patches. Graham Hill was giving CC's for the first time in our
breed and Storm was placed 4th
in Limit Bitch. |

After a short journey to the showground for the Blackpool
& District Canine Society Championship Show, we set up under
glowering skies, hoping that the rain would hold off until judging was
complete. This wasn't to be! Less than half way through proceedings a
persistent drizzle descended upon us which encouraged us to move inside.
Under all round judge Mrs A McDonald,
Storm took reserve from a
class of 10. The rain increased to such an intensity that by the end of
the day reports were received of sightings of a old chap shepherding
various breeds into a big boat, two by two!!! |
| 15.06.2008 |
Early on Sunday Morning, along with myself and
Storm, Credwyn and her
Parson Russell, Minnie, set out for Kelso and the Border Union
Championship Show. Under all rounder Mrs J Malley, Storm, who was as
always beautifully handled by Credwyn, was placed second in Limit Bitch.
Generally a lovely day if a bit chilly when the clouds appeared!! |

Kika's
Birthday! She likes to celebrate with a stroll around the estate and
hopefully a piece of birthday cake later. No candles though, not enough
room!! |
| 11.02.2008 |
At the weekend at the Leigh Canine Society's Open Show
under all round judge Mr B Henry, Storm
was placed 1st in Post Graduate and was then awarded BOB! Following that
in the Hound group under judge Mr F Wardle she took Group 1!!
Needless
to say all connections are delighted. She was completely relaxed by the
whole affair as can be seen from the position taken up immediately upon
arriving home!

It seems that Naku (pictured below) has been keeping the
account of his travels from us........until now! It seems he has a touch of Marco Polo about him. Having made
the journey, as a puppy, from Hertfordshire to Santa Barbara California,
where he spent his formative years with mum Sarah, they have now
both moved to Provence in France. After a four day trek over land and
sea brilliantly organized by Air France, he arrived in Europe. Naku and
Sarah feel that certainly for the time being their wanderlust has been satiated
and have no further travel plans. Well who would if you were
living the easy-going mellow life of the South of France!! |

Recently
received pictures of Naku, son of Ch KweKwe
Kiko (Kiko) and KweKwe Kara-ki of Ninjala; and grandson of KweKwe
Kasiki (Kubi). What a handsome boy he is!
