November & December, Winter Looms!
November 1st, All Saints Day, saw us at Wigan & District Canine Society
Open Show. Storm was placed 1st in Open and went on to take Best of
Breed!
The following weekend we made the trek north, crossing the border for
the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Scotland Championship Show where our
judge was breed specialist Anna Lane from Australia. On this occasion
Storm was unplaced.
Our November engagements were completed locally at the Hyde & District
Canine Association Open Show under breed specialist Kate Lowson. Storm
was placed 2nd in the Open Class.
And so to December, the last month of the year with the
shortest days, and the last championship show of the year.
On Saturday 12th we set out for the Ladies Kennel Association
Championship Show held at the NEC in Birmingham. This is one of my
favourite shows of the year where seasonal goodwill pervades the
atmosphere of the whole show. Under our judge breed specialist Chris
Nuttal, despite showing really well Storm was unplaced in a big Limit
Class of 17 entries.
The year was rounded off quite nicely on the 19th with Storm taking 1st
in Open and Best of Breed at Darwin Canine Society Open Show under judge
Lee Cox.
Well that's it then; no more shows until the New Year, when we'll do it
all again!
All of us at KweKwe wish everybody a very
Happy Christmas and a successful 2010

October, The Rainy Season Returns!!
What is it with this year, after a very pleasant September, October has
seen the return of the monsoon!
The month brought a very worrying time for us all at KweKwe. We visited
the vet so often that they began to wonder whether or not we had become
squatters! Both Solo and Poppy had to have operations but thankfully now
are both recovered and once again in fine form.
More
of a worry was our beloved 11 1/2 year old
Kika, who suddenly one
morning was unable to move to her left. Right was fine but in no way
could she turn to her left. The likely reason for this, while not a
precise diagnosis, is because of something that has gone awry in her
brain, possibly a small stroke. Happily, the veterinary prescribed
medication seems to have overcome the problem, she is now virtually back
to normal.........hooray!!
In the midst of all this, we did manage to attend a couple of shows! On
Sunday 11th October the Midlands & Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club
held their open show in aid of the club rescue fund, which raised a
total of £800! We had an enjoyable day and under judge Mrs J Brownlee,
Storm was placed second in Limit Bitch.
Two weeks later on 24th October we travelled south on the M6 to Stafford
for the Midland Counties Canine Society Championship Show. Under judge
Zena Thorne-Andrews, despite showing well and making the cut from a
Limit Class of 15, Storm was unplaced. Not to worry though, another
enjoyable day out was had by us all!
However, overall I must say that I am pleased to see the back of October
2009!!!!

September, Some Warmer Days!!
 |
Storm with Credwyn
at Darlington Championship Show |
At last Summer arrived, bringing some beautifully warm days! What a
difference some decent weather makes, no wellies and no raincoats making
for some enjoyable days out at the shows.
The first of these was at the City of Birmingham Championship Show held
at Stoneleigh where our judge was Dr Sarah Hemstock. Storm was placed
4th in Limit Bitch from an entry of 12.
On Saturday 12th September we crossed the great divide - The Pennines -
to attend the South Yorkshire Hound Society's Open Show, where our judge
was Lesley Fairhall from Australia. While judging was held inside, a
picnic lunch was taken outside, under practically cloudless skies. Storm
was placed 2nd in Open Bitch, a gorgeous day!
Almost a week later, on Friday 18th, we headed back east again to Newby
Hall, Ripon, for the Darlington Dog Show Society Championship Show.
Unlike last year there was no mud to wade through and we had a most
enjoyable day. Sadly under judge Ferelith Somerfield, Storm was unplaced
but that didn't temper our enjoyment of the day, some you win and some
you lose!!
As the month drew to a close, Sunday 27th saw us back at Stoneleigh but
this time in the Kennel Club Building for the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club
of Great Britain Championship Show, where our judge was Ann Gates. Storm
was one of a large entry of 19 in Limit Bitch and while making the cut
failed to make the final placings.

It
is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mari (KweKwe Kimari)
who passed away on Tuesday 18th August 2009 at the grand age of 12 1/2.
Mari was out of KweKwe Kim by Ch Tukela Muluku and owned by Graham and
Sue Armitage. She was a beautiful girl and while only lightly shown made
her mark in the ring with great dignity and aplomb.
She is greatly missed by Graham and Sue and, needless to say, all of us
at KweKwe.

Poppy's
Birthday!!
All of us at KweKwe wish our special girl a Very Happy 7th Birthday.
It may be your birthday Poppy but when it comes to the cake it's every
man (girl) for themselves!!

August, Still The Rainy Season!!!
Far from being a traditional summer month, this year August proved to be
a month for boats and coats! Most of the month was extremely wet and at
times cold with it!!
We only went to two shows this month, each with totally contrasting
journeys. The first was an easy drive along the concrete ribbon that is
the M6 to Stafford. Secondly came the beautifully scenic journey to
Builth Wells, reminiscent of a bygone age of motoring, picnics by the
roadside and waiting for the AA man to arrive!!
Saturday 1st saw us making the shortish trip down the M6 to Stafford for
the Hound Association Championship Show. Our judge was all rounder Mr D
Simpson who in a large class of 14 placed Storm in a very creditable 4th
(Reserve) place.
Friday
21st August Saw us making the picturesque journey to Builth Wells for
the Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show. The earlier intermittent heavy
rain meant that judging was confined to a somewhat cramped and draughty
marquee. The marquee proved so cold that many dogs where to be seen
wearing their coats although outside it was sunny and warm!! Our judge
was Mr P Broadbent who placed Storm 3rd in Limit, from an entry of 11.

July, The Rainy Season!!
On Sunday July 5th We trolled on down to the Fun Day held in aid of
Rescue at John & Cheryl McFall's lovely home. The day started hot and
sunny but soon the
heavens
opened and for about 1hr it deluged down. However out came the sun and
soon we were dried out nicely, if a bit steamy!! Games were resumed and
there was the usual lovely food to be had. The day raised in excess of
£1000 for rescue. Many thanks due to all the McFall family for their
hard work.
Sunday July 19th Saw us down at Stoneleigh for M & N Ridgeback Club
Championship Show where Toni Agnew was the Judge. No placing for Storm
today, but we had a good time with our friends.
On
Saturday July 25th, Leeds Championship Show was held as usual at
Harewood House, a favourite venue, where Lyn Hewson was our judge. The
weather was kind treating us to a warm and sunny day. In a Limit class
with an entry of 10 Storm was awarded VHC.

June, Flaming some of the time!!
Flaming June lived up to its name, some of the time!
On
a very hot Sunday 14th we made our way down to Markfield, in
Leicestershire, where the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Great Britain held
their Open Show. Under breed specialist judge Cilla Saunders, Storm was
placed 4th in a Limit class of 12. Unfortunately we missed both Border
Union and Cheshire County due to me having a leg injury, making driving
difficult.
However completely recovered we made it to Blackpool Championship Show
on 27th June. Jean and Maestro came to spend the night with us and he
had a great time playing with our Girls. Dr Goran Bodegard from Sweden
was judging, where in a Limit class of 15, always one of the strongest
classes, and in spite of showing really well Storm was unplaced.

Solo's
10th Birthday!
"Do you have to point that thing at me!?"
Well, all you girls out there will understand. When we are young and
lithe, to have lots of people taking photographs of us is very exciting,
and flattering. But of course, as the years roll by and things start to
spread, it becomes less flattering and much more tedious, but they do
insist. Oh well, just have to have some more birthday cake!!

May, The Merry Month!
May has been a quiet month on the showing front for us. Thursday May 7th
saw us make a weekday trip to the Birmingham National Championship Show
where Storm performed well in an entry of 14. But was not placed by
judge Keith Thornton.
On Saturday May 16th I had the pleasure of judging our breed at the
Scottish Kennel Club Championship Show in Edinburgh. The weather was
kind and with Credwyn for company spent a good day after judging looking
at the many stalls!

sister Kimi.
Kimi is owned and loved by the Ainscough family; she clearly gets on

April, April Showers? Not This Year!
April has been such a glorious month it was a pleasure to make the long
trip to Kelso in Scotland for the Scottish Hound Association
Championship Show on April 11th. where breed specialist Janice Ellis was
judging. Storm was in Limit and was placed 2nd in a class of 9.
On Sunday 19th April Bebington Canine Society held an Open Show where
Maggie Holder was judging Hounds.Storm was in Open winning her class and
Best of Breed.
On April 25th we headed south this time to the lovely area of Malvern
where WELKS hold their Championship Show. A good venue either inside or
outside depending on the weather and lots of interesting stalls to
browse when judging has finished. Breed specialist Sue Simper was our
Judge. Storm was in Limit, a class of 13 entries but was unplaced.
However I was pleased with her performance both standing and moving.

March, The Mad Hare Month!
Where did March go?
We managed to get to three shows this month. The first was Crufts on
March 5th where Elina Haapaniemi was judging .Storm was in a class of 22
and along with some other lovely bitches didn't get a place. Not
withstanding this we enjoyed our day out, meeting up with folk we
usually only see at Crufts.
On
22nd March we went to the Bootle, Crosby & South Liverpool Canine
Society Open Show. Christine Young was judging and placed Storm 1st in
the Open Class.
The Midlands & Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Open Show was on the
29th March with breed specialist Liz Storey judging. Storm was 2nd in a
class of 15. I was delighted with the way she performed for Credwyn who
handles her so well.

February, The Shortest Month!
February came in like a lion, with ice and snow, but went out like a
lamb with all the signs of Spring in the garden! Our girls are now
enjoying basking in the sunshine. Sadly Storm couldn't go to any shows
this month due to an ear problem. However, all is well now and we are
looking forwards to a March trip to Crufts and some local shows.

First Month of The Year, January!
January came and went with a vengeance ending with Arctic conditions for
a lot of us, although our crew enjoy running around in the snow. We
managed to get to a couple of shows during the month.
On 11th January at Clitheroe and District Kennel Association Open Show,
judged by Margaret Ledward, Storm was placed 3rd in Open.
On 15th January at Manchester Championship Show where Melanie Dunn was
giving CC's for the first time Storm was unplaced in Limit.
